Interior Updates

When we got the keys to our house I believed we would be able to walk into the house & transform it into the home we had been dreaming of within a matter of days. Oh how wrong was I!? We've been in the house for 5 weeks & still haven't even managed to order a sofa, yep our bed is were we spend most of time, sitting watching hours of Netflix, eating popcorn, chilling out. 

See, before we moved I never added work, household chores, visiting family, looking after a pug or our budget into the equation, I just assumed things would get done & the place would be perfect pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong, we have got a fair few things done in the short space of time we've lived here, such as re-paint the main bedroom & gloss all the woodwork, strip the wallpaper off the chimney breasts in both the living & dining rooms and we've made a start on painting the bathroom too. It just takes a whole lot longer than I allowed myself to expect. Next week we are getting the damp issues resolved downstairs, it's gonna be messy & involve one wall to be re-plastered & another to have all it's paint sanded off... seriously what did I get myself into!? After thats complete though we can go ahead with getting the rooms done to our taste so it's all exciting stuff really! 

I'm 100% set on white walls & a grey sofa to go with our original wooden floorboards & we have ordered white wood venetian blinds. I did want shutters, but our windows are HUGE & the quotes we got were just insane so I settled on venetian blinds instead. The house is Victorian, meaning it's full of character, super high ceilings & original features which I am obsessed with so I want to keep the decor simple & fresh to ensure that the character doesn't get disguised. 
The Kitchen is the one room I'm 98% happy with, the units are white gloss with black worktops & white subway tiles on the walls. We just need to get a new radiator & it *could* do with a lick of paint at some stage in the future but for now it's a nice place to cook & thats the main thing! We've managed to make the most of how the previous owners left it by adding all the little accessories I collected over the past year & I'm really pleased with how it's come together. 
Upstairs wise our main focus is on our bedroom, we are currently sleeping in the back bedroom until we have the blinds fitted. Luckily it didn't need any work doing apart from cosmetic things like painting & we are going to pull up the carpet because it's worn out & crinkles when you walk on it which irritates me. So we have created a bit of work for ourselves by planning to remove the carpet as the floorboards are going to need sanding down & varnishing at the very least, but it will be worth it! The other two bedrooms are in decent condition too, again they just need a fresh coat of paint but theres no rush to get that done just yet. One room is going to be Dom's man cave to hide away all his geek junk & computer stuff & then the other is going to be my haven... a room for all my beauty products to live, along with a space to blog & be creative. 

We haven't even made a start on the courtyard, the list is literally endless with things I want to do but I am loving every minute of being in our very own place & can't wait to see it all come together over time! Homeware Wishlist

We should be moving within the next 6-8 weeks if all goes to plan & up until now I've been quite reserved when it comes to buying things for our new home. It feels like an absolute lifetime ago since we began our house hunt so now that we have actually found one it doesn't seem real! A huge homeware splurge is bound to happen any time soon... I'm dying to click the checkout button on the Oliver Bonas website, but I keep thinking I should be saving & not spending! I've been buying little bits & pieces for months but now I need to start getting serious & become a bit more organised. Of course we will need the boring but necessary purchases like a washing machine & fridge but I'm just gonna ignore those for as long as possible & buy the fun things instead! I'm going for a neutral colour scheme when it comes to decor, white & grey being the main wall colours. The house has original wooden floorboards downstairs & we are also going to pull up the carpet in one of the bedrooms (hello white wooden floorboards... living the Pinterest dream!!) so I need to inject some colour with the accessories. I'm mostly going along with this new 'blogger trend' of being obsessed with copper but I also love mint green & baby pink too!

You may or may not know that I'm currently living back at home with my Mum after over a year of living with Dom in our own little flat. We ended up moving back to the North after being based down South for a few reasons, not only because Dom landed himself an amazing new job (super proud gf!), but we wanted to be closer to our family & friends again, plus it's much cheaper up here so we can get more for our money in terms of property! Living at home with parents again after being independent is so hard, I actually can't cope haha so I've been distracting myself by dreaming about how I want to decorate our house & I've become addicted to Pinterest again! The aim is to have our own house by Christmas, so fingers crossed it works out well but for now I'll continue to develop my obsession for Pinterest & endlessly scroll through Right Move looking for a perfect place to live!

I'm torn between going for a completely Shabby Chic style room with french furniture & lots of florals everywhere or to keep it quite simple & chic. In an ideal world I'd love our first house to have lots of character such as little old fireplaces in the bedrooms, victorian floor tiles & big bay windows so that I can keep the decor to a minimum & let the original features do the talking! I know that I want the bedroom to be mostly white, to keep it looking crisp & clean but I want to inject colour with accessories & perhaps even a piece of furniture that can be a focal point if I find the right item. The main reason I want the room to be white, e.g the walls & flooring is because I want the room to be filled with as much natural light as possible. The flat we lived in was quite dull because of the paintwork being green & magnolia (not my choice), along with huge heavy furniture that blocked out light it felt quite closed in & I found it would make me want to stay in bed longer. There's nothing nicer than waking up to an airy fresh looking room, I feel like it would put me in a better mood for the day.

wednesday wishlist #15

I find myself looking at the homeware section of shops more & more, for as long as I can remember I've always been interested in Interior Design & now that I have my own place with Dom I'm constantly on the hunt for things to make our flat more homely! This week I decided to dedicate my usual wishlist post to some lovely home products I'm lusting after. My taste is quite girly with a mix of vintage/shabby chic so I'm aware not everyone will like what I pick but I'm lucky in the sense that Dom doesn't mind floral bedding & a pastel themed kitchen!
It would be such a dream to own a Kitchenaid, I pointed them out to Dom at Christmas time & he almst died at the price, to be honest the price is insane but it's so pretty & I love baking so that completely justifies it, right!? I have an obsession with cushions, I love having a big pile of them on my bed, it makes it look so much nicer plus it's cosy & a couple of floral cushions helps make our sofa a bit more 'us' (or should I say 'me'!) - one of the many downsides to renting is not being able to have freewill over the decor & furniture, it drives me mad! I just want to paint the walls, hang up pictures & buy some beautiful furniture, wah, one day hopefully!!

wednesday wishlist #3

Slightly different from my usual Wednesday wishlist, however I have finally sorted out a house in London & there are a couple of things I want to get to organise my room, which lead me to produce this little post :)

One - Cath Kidston bleached flower underbed storage is so pretty & perfect to store away things I don't want on display, e.g uni notes, important documents, or bedding & towels. I definitely think this is my favourite Cath Kidston pattern. I wouldn't be able to store these under my bed at uni as it's a divan but they would store neatly at the bottom of my wardrobe or under my desk! 

Two - These little heart bowls are super cute & would look lovely sat on my chest of drawers displaying my most used nail polishes or bits of jewellery.

Three - I think this little house shaped chalk board would be ideal for the kitchen, I'm forever forgettting what I need from the shops, even if I write lists, so by having a visual display like this I'm more likely to remember! Plus the other girls can add on what they need so we can all help each other out in that sense :)

Four - Meet Emmeline the brown owl! My friend Abi is obsessed with Owls, I'm pretty sure she would own an Owl if she could! Anyway I know she has one of these cushions & I really like them, Sass & Belle did have a cupcake one in store but I couldn't find it online! I'm also a massive fan of the fox cushions they sell & think they would look so sweet placed upon a bed of crisp white linen.

Five - I noticed the lightbulb in my room was bare & made a mental note to find a lampshade, unfortunately being a student this is too pricey for me at the mo, but if I was rich this would be mine! On the look out for something cheap & cheerful now... ):

Four out of the five items shown on my little wishlist are from Sass & Belle, I didn't do this on purpose I just can't resist their items! Everytime I visit the little shop in Covent Garden I have to restrain myself from spending a fortune, it's like heaven to me! Have you ever been to Sass & Belle? It's well worth a visit!
